FISCAL TECHNICIAN-SUPERVISORY

DEFINITION:

This is supervisory clerical-accounting work involving the application of bookkeeping principles and practices.

An employee in this class is responsible for supervising bookkeeping operations in recording, reviewing, processing, and controlling financial records and documents. Work involves supervising the maintaining of a bookkeeping system for a small administrative unit, or for a limited fiscal or accounting function in a fiscal or accounting operation. Work is performed independently within a framework of prescribed accounting or fiscal regulations and procedures. Fiscal and accounting problems and irregularities are referred to a professional fiscal officer or accountant. Supervision of subordinate employees is exercised through the assignment and review of work and the establishment of internal processing procedures. Supervision is received through personal conferences, general observation of work in progress, and the review of completed work and reports by a professional supervisor.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Supervises a clerical-accounting unit engaged in reviewing, posting, and processing a variety of financial, payroll or audit documents.

Supervises the preparation and maintenance of account receivable ledgers and billings.

Posts and supervises the posting of accounting data to general ledger accounts from subsidiary reports and papers and takes trial balances.

Prepares and supervises the preparation of financial reports.

Performs the duties of head cashier involving the receipt of a considerable volume of money over the counter and through the mail; supervises subordinate cashiers.

Supervises the maintenance of a small payroll or a portion of a larger payroll including posting changes, auditing of completeness, reviewing of input and output from the payroll system, and preparing payroll system reports.

Supervises the maintenance of expenditure and budgetary control accounts and the preparation of reports relating to account and fiscal status.

Perform related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.

Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment.

Some knowledge of accounting principles and methods.

Ability to plan, assign, review, and supervise the work of employees engaged in a bookkeeping or clerical fiscal operation.

Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.

Ability to prepare financial reports and statements.

Ability to apply and adapt established methods to financial
transactions.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

One year as a Fiscal Assistant;

or

Three years of work involving the maintenance of fiscal or financial records, including one year of responsible work which involves the application of accounting or fiscal principles and practices; and graduation from high school;

or

One year of experience in maintaining and reviewing fiscal records and an Associate degree in accounting or business administration;
