IES TESTING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST

DEFINITION: This is technical and administrative work in the development, implementation and coordination of testing and quality assurance functions to support the Commonwealth’s Integrated Enterprise System (IES) SAP system.

An employee in this job evaluates, establishes and coordinates testing, quality assurance and risk analysis activities to ensure the integrity of the IES SAP system. Work includes developing and/or coordinating system testing and quality assurance procedures and measures; researching and recommending testing software tools; coordinating the use of a transport process to ensure testing changes are properly implemented; assisting in the development and use of testing and quality assurance policies and plans; and working with other IES team members and Commonwealth agencies to identify, assess and coordinate the resolution of technical testing and quality assurance problems and issues. Work also involves identifying and assessing potential issues, trends and risks within the IES SAP system; recommending and coordinating risk mitigation; and assisting in the development of risk management reports and plans. An employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in assuring testing, quality assurance and risk analysis activities meet IES and Commonwealth policies, plans, standards and procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of the IES Testing and Quality Assurance Manager and is reviewed for conformance with established criteria, standards and procedures and the evaluation of results achieved.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Develops, coordinates and implements IES testing and quality assurance measures and activities.

Participates in developing and monitoring IES testing and quality assurance policies and plans.

Coordinates IES test stream activities with the appropriate IES team, Commonwealth agency or third party.

Ensures test problems uncovered during a test stream are resolved prior to placement of changes in the production environment.

Ensures that opportunities for improvements in IES testing and quality assurance policy, standards, and procedures are identified and implemented as approved
by the IES Testing and Quality Assurance Manager or higher authority.

Ensures IES testing and quality assurance measures and procedures comply with Commonwealth policies, standards and procedures.

Maintains a testing problem tracking log.

Ensures test scripts are kept updated with system functionality.

Drafts documents addressing testing, quality assurance and risk analysis issues.

Assesses potential problems and recommends corrective actions to resolve or mitigate associated risks.

Monitors the implementation of testing and quality assurance policies, processes and procedures to ensure uniform application across the IES.

Ensures compliance with SAP configuration and development IES standards prior to configuration and data object change release into the IES Production system.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of current principles and practices required to develop and implement testing and quality assurance measures.

Knowledge of the capabilities and requirements of current testing and quality assurance methodologies, equipment, and software.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management required for system testing, quality assurance and risk analysis assessments.

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of computer systems testing, quality assurance and risk analysis documentation.

Ability to analyze and evaluate testing and quality assurance activities to coordinate operational and monitoring procedures for improved service delivery or problem resolution.

Ability to use the Commonwealth’s standard desktop software package.

Ability to provide technical assistance to IES and Commonwealth staff on testing, quality assurance and risk analysis measures and standards.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with IES staff, Commonwealth agency staff, vendors, and others.

Ability to understand and apply research and evaluation methodologies for testing, quality assurance and risk analysis decision making.

Ability to prepare and present findings and to provide support and guidance concerning required corrective actions.

Ability to analyze and organize complex information.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects and activities to meet deadlines and complete in a timely manner.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience in performing testing or quality assurance methodology work involving SAP or another large-scale, integrated computer system and a bachelor’s degree;

Possession of a nationally recognized certification in Quality Management, Quality Engineering, or Quality Auditing from the American Society for Quality or an equivalent nationally recognized certification;

                                                                                                                                                                          or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.
