IES INTEGRATION SPECIALIST

DEFINITION: This is highly advanced technical and administrative information technology work in support of the Integrated Enterprise System’s (IES) integration strategy activities to facilitate data flow into and out of the SAP system.

An employee in this job performs administrative and highly advanced technical information technology duties in analyzing, developing and maintaining scripts, utility programs and connections to support the transport of agency and third party data into and out of the SAP system using a variety of integration software and hardware. Work includes developing and maintaining scripts and utility programs using various programming languages to execute the flow of data; establishing and maintaining connections between agency systems; identifying, researching and resolving connectivity, interface and performance problems that may be critical in nature; monitoring system logs and statistics to ensure satisfactory performance levels; and providing technical guidance to IT staff on the design and use of integration components. Work also includes reviewing integration processes and procedures and participating in the development of standards and templates. Work may involve installing, updating, configuring, monitoring and tuning integration hardware and software components. Work is characterized by highly advanced independent duties advising clients on the capabilities and limitations of integration operations and providing expertise and guidance for integration activities. Work is generally performed independently with initiative, and is reviewed for achievement of objectives to ensure integration integrity and functionality.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Develops and maintains scripts and utility programs to support data flow into and out of SAP.

Develops technical solutions based on best system design practices using MQ Series, MQ Series Integrator, SAP Business Connector, Korn Shell, Java utilities, and Tivoli software.

Establishes, troubleshoots and maintains integration connectivity and resolves system connectivity problems.

Monitors system logs and statistics to analyze integration component activities and performance.

Coordinates with and provides technical assistance for other IT staff on integration operations.

Documents and updates integration processes and procedures.

Provides on-call support with problem resolution and off-hours maintenance including mission critical interface problems.

Installs system updates and upgrades to correct problems or ensure system is up-to-date.

Tunes integration software for optimal performance.

Performs disaster recovery testing.

Provides support for the application of software upgrades, updates and patches.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of developments and practices in information technology and methodologies in applications and systems analysis and development.

Knowledge of application integration concepts and methodologies.

Knowledge of information technology and systems analysis principles and techniques.

Knowledge of administrative principles and practices applicable to information technology development and support.

Knowledge of the concepts, characteristics, and capabilities of information technology.

Knowledge of computer programming techniques.

Knowledge of the use and interpretation of diagnostic utility programs used in troubleshooting problems.

Ability to use integration software such as MQ Series, MQ Series Integrator, SAP Business Connector, Korn Shell, Java utilities, and Tivoli.

Ability to analyze and translate management and business process objectives and procedures into information technology solutions to meet user and business requirements.

Ability to conduct presentations and information technology training.

Ability to prepare, organize, and present factual information to employees.

Ability to read, comprehend and interpret technical manuals and procedures.

Ability to grasp and learn new concepts in the information technology field.

Ability to learn the federal and state regulatory agencies, laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to information technology.

Ability to conduct research in order to discover answers to problems that have not been previously documented.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as an Information Technology Generalist 2, Applications Developer 2, Database Analyst or Distributed Systems Specialist 2;

Three years of technical experience providing information technology user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis, applications integration, and network and desktop PC support services; and an associate degree in computer science; management, computer or business information systems; microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology or closely related field;

Five years of technical experience providing information technology user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis, applications integration, and network and desktop PC support;

                                                                                                                                                                              or

One year of technical experience providing information technology user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis, applications integration, and network and desktop PC support services; and a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 18 credits in computer science; management, computer or business information systems; microcomputer technology, information technology, desktop technology or closely related field;

                                                                                                                                                                              or

An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 credits in computer science; management, computer or business information systems or a closely related field, and two years of experience providing information technology support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis, applications integration, and network and desktop PC support services.
