IES SENIOR BUSINESS WAREHOUSE SPECIALIST

DEFINITION: This is highly advanced technical and analytical work in the development, design, configuration, and performance of enterprise data warehouse software solutions for the Commonwealth’s Integrated Enterprise System (IES) SAP Business Warehouse system.

An employee in this job is a member of a technical business warehouse team that analyzes enterprise data warehouse needs and models, designs, develops, and implements enterprise data warehouse solutions. The work includes reviewing and analyzing strategic and analytical data and information needs; determining the most appropriate way to provide and support those needs using the Business Warehouse software; analyzing the cost of supporting the data and information needs using the data warehouse software; designing the data warehouse solution; configuring the enterprise data warehouse software; developing
specifications for customized changes to the enterprise data warehouse structures; and managing communications and impacts to enterprise data warehouse users, and other Commonwealth business and technical teams. A significant aspect of the work includes understanding the relationship among data structures, information requirements, and the options for satisfying those requirements. The work also requires providing technical assistance to system users, database administrators, Basis administrators, business operations teams, and application developers. Employees in this job may be given ongoing project leadership
assignments. Work is assigned by an IES Business Warehouse Supervisor and is reviewed for overall effectiveness and satisfactory completion of assignments.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Serves as a member of a technical business warehouse team for a business operations area to analyze, design, configure, and optimize enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Analyzes the requirements and designs the data models to support enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Configures the enterprise data warehouse software to support enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Coordinates and executes data warehouse and source system integration activities with business functional area specialists, technical specialists and user representatives to ensure that all integration issues and user impacts are considered when developing or modifying enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Develops detailed functional specifications that describe custom changes that are needed to support Commonwealth enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Designs, develops, documents, and supports data recovery strategies to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data restoration in the event of data corruption or data load failure.

Monitors, analyzes, and optimizes data warehouse performance.

Creates aggregates or indexes, compresses data targets, remodels data targets, and other enterprise data warehouse objects to improve performance levels.

Prepares analyses and cost benefit projections for development and support of enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Prepares, develops, executes, and validates testing of enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Analyzes, researches, and resolves data warehouse problems.

Makes recommendations on the most appropriate design to support enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Analyzes and assesses report and data archiving requirements.

Models, designs, and configures the enterprise data warehouse to support the long-term strategy for archiving.

Prepares and assists in the preparation of training materials and scenarios.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management.

Knowledge of systems analysis principles, practices, and techniques.

Knowledge of data warehousing and database principles, practices, and techniques.

Ability to analyze requirements and learn to model, design, and configure the enterprise data warehouse solutions.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with end users, technical staff, consultants, and coworkers.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to learn Commonwealth business processes.

Ability to perform technical duties in a large scale enterprise environment.

Ability to use all components of Microsoft Office software.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years as an IES Business Warehouse Specialist;

                                                                                                                                                                               or

Six years of professional work in data warehousing, database administration, or related field;

                                                                                                                                                                               or

Four years of professional work in data warehousing, database administration, or related field, and an associate’s degree in computer science or related discipline;

                                                                                                                                                                               or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.
