JOB TITLE: INTERMITTENT LIQUOR STORE CLERK

JOB CODE: 02060

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Liquor Store Clerk series describes retail work in a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) liquor store.

DEFINITION: This is part-time routine sales clerical work in receiving, stocking, selling, and accounting for inventory in a PLCB liquor store.

An employee in this job is responsible for engaging in customer service, operating a computerized cash register to complete sales, unloading shipments, stocking shelves, assembling displays, and cleaning the store. Care must be exercised to avoid selling merchandise to persons who are prohibited by law from purchasing alcoholic beverages. Work includes receiving wholesale customer orders, assembling and packing cases per customer order, and loading customer orders into vehicles. Duties are explained in detail and are reviewed by a manager or shift leader for adherence to policy and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.):

• Assists customers in locating products, recommending substitutions, completing sales, and packaging merchandise.

• Assists customers with heavy or multiple package merchandise.

• Uses a computer to look up inventory and locate products in other stores.

• Arranges stock in bins, rotates inventory, retrieves merchandise from storeroom, and takes inventory.

• Takes special orders for merchandise not in stock and prepares initial purchase request.

• Unloads stock from delivery trucks, cuts up boxes, and attends to the general custodial cleaning of the store.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to operate a computerized cash register and make change.

• Ability to make mathematical computations related to sales and inventory recordkeeping

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
