JOB TITLE: LIQUOR STORE CLERK 2

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Liquor Store Clerk series describes retail work in a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) liquor store.

DEFINITION: This is lead work in retail sales at a PLCB liquor store.

An employee in this job leads lower-level clerks in daily store operations during an assigned shift. Work involves overseeing and engaging in customer service, ringing sales on a cash register, unloading shipments, stocking shelves, building displays, and cleaning the store. Work includes providing on-the-job training to lower-level store employees regarding store procedures and policies; assigning and reviewing the work of lower-level store clerks; completing accounting and inventory reports for the shift; overseeing cash management functions on the shift; and resolving customer service and product-related issues. Routine store duties are performed and assigned independently, while guidance is sought from a manager or an assistant manager for new or unusual circumstances. Work is reviewed by a manager through conferences and reports for adherence to policy and procedures and for the overall performance of the work on the assigned shift.

   DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

     • Work is distinguished from the lower-level job by by the responsibility for performing lead work for shift operations or specific retailing tasks.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.)

• Leads shift operations in Shift Dependent and Independent stores by completing sales and inventory records and reports, overseeing cash management functions, and resolving customer service and product-related issues.

• Leads lower-level staff in a Shift Independent store in the performance of various retailing tasks, such as ringing sales, unloading shipments, returning or exchanging merchandise, correcting cash register errors, and coordinating the restocking and rotation of inventory.

• Provides input to the supervisor for the completion of performance evaluations for lower-level staff.

• Assists customers in locating products, recommending substitutions, completing sales, and packaging merchandise.

• Uses a computer, tablet, or inventory scanner and related software to perform routine duties such as looking up inventory, locating products in other stores, and answering and composing emails.

• Takes spot inventory of merchandise and records counts through the Point of Sale system.

• Oversees and participates in store cleaning activities.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and processes of retail store operations.

• Knowledge of stock handling and inventory control methods and procedures.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to read and interpret written policies and procedures.

• Ability to make mathematical computations related to sales and inventory recordkeeping.

• Ability to utizile a computer and required software.

• Ability to utilize and operate computerized and electronic handheld equipment.

• Ability to prepare records and required reports.

• Ability to operate a computerized cash register and make change.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• Six months as a Liquor Store Clerk 1 or Intermittent Liquor Store Clerk (commonwealth titles);

or

• Six months of retail sales work.
