JOB TITLE: RETAIL TRAINING INSTRUCTOR SUPERVISOR

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Retail Training Instructor job series describes work in the presentation of retail focused training for store employees of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB).

DEFINITION: This is supervisory and professional work in the presentation of retail focused training in the PA Liquor Control Board.

An employee in this job supervises subordinate Retail Training Instructors and Trainees and conducts the full inventory of trainings for retail employees. Work involves conducting classroom based trainings related to retail policies and procedures, safety, and direct instruction on utilizing retail equipment, such as computerized cash registers and barcode scanners. Work includes instructing on the use of various software packages used in stores. Work also includes ensuring appropriate training sessions are conducted, conducting training on conceptual topics, such as leadership skills or shift supervision skills, and supervising the analytical review of newly developed or newly revised trainings. Work includes communicating upcoming training sessions, setting up class rooms prior to trainings, and ensuring adequate supplies of materials are on hand. Work is reviewed by a manager through direct observation, reports, and overall training effectiveness.

• Oversees the instructional work performed by subordinates to ensure appropriate training sessions are conducted and that training is presented effectively.

• Presents training in a classroom setting.

• Takes attendance and accounts for all scheduled staff.

• Configures training room seating in order to coincide with lesson plans.

• Completes activity reports on attendees’ progress.

• Assesses employees’ ability to meet standard performance measures on different topics.

• Communicates with district managers and store managers on issues involving attendees’ participation or progress.

• Conducts routine maintenance on training center computers.

• Ensures all equipment is in working order.

• Assesses learning and engages attendees by asking open ended questions.

• Utilizes audio and visual training tools.

• Leads the review of lesson plans and learning objectives for new or modified courses and provides feedback to course developers.

• Employees in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of PLCB retail policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of the use and application of store related equipment.

• Knowledge of the use and application of store related software.

• Knowledge of the use and application of office equipment.

• Knowledge of safety procedures in a retail setting.

• Knowledge of lifting techniques.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):

• One year as a Retail Training Instructor;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
