STOCK CLERK 1

DEFINITION: This is manual and clerical work in receiving and issuing materials, supplies, tools and equipment.

An employee in this class performs primarily manual and several simple clerical recordkeeping duties in the receiving, storing, shipping, and care of supplies, such as preparing a list of stock items that need to be reordered, assisting in the conduct of inventories, and checking items received against the purchase order; or an employee performs primarily manual and several simple clerical duties in a phase of a storeroom operation such as receiving items or filling and packing requisition orders. Work assignments involve strenuous manual work and routine clerical tasks in the maintenance of simple stores records. Work may include the
use of mechanized storeroom equipment to move materials. A supervisor makes specific work assignments but the employee makes minor decisions on work methods.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Receives, unpacks, checks, and records the receipt of goods; stores goods in proper storage places; receives delivery orders; withdraws goods from stock, checking for required commodity, size, and lot; receives signed delivery tickets.

Assembles stock items in accordance with a computerized requisition order, packs shipments, and loads goods.

Stores and maintains tools and allied equipment; distributes tools for daily use, and maintains records; receives and stores tools and materials at the end of the day.

Operates fork lift, hand truck or other storeroom equipment to move over-sized or heavy materials.

Takes or assists in taking physical inventories of stock.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures.

Knowledge of the kinds, grades, and uses of the supplies dealt with.

Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods.

Ability to follow oral or written instructions.

Ability to pack goods properly for shipment.

Ability to keep simple inventory and stores records.

Sufficient physical strength to permit the lifting and moving of heavy objects.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Graduation from high school;
