STOCK CLERK 3

DEFINITION: This is specialized stores work involving the independent operation of a storeroom that includes the receipt, storage, distribution, ordering and recordkeeping of all items in stock.

An employee engaged in specialized stores work is responsible for a storeroom containing items of considerable value such as lottery tickets, fishing licenses, and hunting licenses or for items requiring special handling such as food, chemicals for scientific experiments and laboratory equipment at state colleges or for
firearms and ordnance in a State Police storeroom. An employee engaged in an independent storeroom function is responsible for the total storeroom operation of a highway maintenance district office in the Department of Transportation or for a maintenance storeroom at a Department of Public Welfare institution. In both concepts of work at this level, the employee is responsible for maintaining supply levels based on departmental need, turnover rate, and supplies on hand. Employees order, receive, store and distribute all items in the storeroom based on records or projected levels of supplies maintained by the incumbent. General
instructions on procedures to be followed are received but this employee must still independently apply proper storekeeping methods. Periodic reviews of the employee's work are made by a supervisor through inspections of records and stock conditions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Inspects quantity and quality of materials received to see that they conform to prescribed specifications; accepts or rejects goods as indicated; approves invoices for payment.

Independently prepares requisitions for stock replacement, subject to review of a supervisor.

Performs work in the proper receiving, storing, and issuing of materials.

Develops efficient storage methods, including the allocation and arrangement of bins and storage spaces.

Maintains proper maintenance of records incident to periodic inventories, receipt of goods, and issuance of supplies.

Makes minor purchases when necessary.

Confers with administrative supervisors on replacement problems and new purchases.

Maintains good sanitary conditions in the storeroom area.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures.

Knowledge of purchase and requisition procedures.

Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods.

Knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures.

Ability to determine quality and quantity of goods in relation to prescribed specifications.

Ability to install and maintain stock inventory records.

Sufficient physical strength to permit the lifting and moving of heavy objects.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Three years of experience in stores control work, including one year of experience with responsibility for the operation of a small storeroom; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a high school or vocational school;
