STOREKEEPER 2

DEFINITION: This is supervisory storekeeping work in the operation of a storeroom handling perishable or valuable stock in an institution, department, board or commission.

An employee in this class is responsible for the receipt, storage, and distribution and recordkeeping operations of storerooms handling perishable stock such as frozen food items or medical supplies requiring refrigeration; or are responsible for the receipt, storage and distribution and recordkeeping operations of storerooms handling valuable supplies including parts necessary for engine overhaul and rebuilding work; or are responsible for supervising the functions of employees performing specialized stores work. Employees are responsible for supervising subordinate employees performing varied manual and clerical tasks within one or more storerooms. Work is performed with considerable independence in determining work methods and procedures and is reviewed for efficient operation through inspections and accounting controls.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Plans and supervises the work of several other employees in the proper receiving, storing, and issuing of materials.

Orders supplies through the use of the Direct Purchase Requisition; receives and inspects valuable stock for adherence to specifications; stores items in appropriate area; distributes items according to prescribed guidelines.

Estimates stock needs; consults with supervisor and departmental officials as to changes in inventory levels; inspects goods received, and approves invoices for payment.

Maintains inventory and other stores records involving large stocks of a varied nature; maintains inventory controls for stock ordering.

Supervises the receipt, storage, issuance, and delivery of supplies and certain perishable and fragile items, frequently requiring special care for proper storage.

Directs proper distribution of goods in filling requisitions.

Contacts vendors in ordering and expediting deliveries of stores and foodstuffs.

Supervises the maintenance and repair of storeroom equipment and general custodial care of the storeroom.

Submits periodic reports to an administrative supervisor concerning the operation of the storeroom.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of storekeeping methods and procedures used in the receipt, storage and issuance of a variety of goods.

Knowledge of a wide variety of kinds and grades of foodstuffs, supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.

Knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures.

Knowledge of the needs of various institutional divisions and
sections.

Ability to make inspections as to the quality of goods in relation to purchase orders and specifications.

Ability to install and maintain stock inventory records.

Ability to plan, assign, instruct, and review the work of a large group of workers performing a variety of storekeeping and related functions.

Ability to make commercial arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Four years of experience in stores control work, including two years of supervisory experience or in charge of a storeroom with considerable volume and variety of commodities; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a standard high school or vocational school;
