JOB TITLE: LIQUOR STORE GENERAL MANAGER 2A

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Liquor Store General Manager series describes work managing a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) liquor store.

DEFINITION: This is supervisory work directing all activities of a PLCB Shift Dependent retail store with annual sales of 189,751 to 260,000 units.

An employee in this job has complete accountability for a store’s operation by managing all customer service, licensee service, sales, inventory management, merchandising, training, cleanliness, and safety activities. Responsibilities include implementing and applying policies and procedures; ensuring adherence to all marketing, merchandising, and promotional activities; promoting good customer relations; directing subordinate shift lead workers and personally supervising a daily shift; accounting for store wide cash management issues; completing all store records; scheduling staff; supervising all store staff and resolving personnel issues; reviewing and assessing store performance metrics; and resolving all inventory-related issues. The performance of routine clerical duties is also required. Work is reviewed by a district manager who monitors the overall performance of the store through various reports, meetings, and conferences.

   DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

     • Work is differentiated from the next lower level by the greater operational complexity of the assigned Shift Dependent store.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.):

• Plans and anticipates weekly operational needs of the assigned store based on local market needs.

• Uses a standard office computer to write email and to review spreadsheets and documents.

• Assists customers in locating products, recommends substitutions, completes sales, and packages merchandise.

• Uses a computer to look up inventory and locate products in other stores.

• Oversees the coordination of Special Liquor Orders for customers and licensees.

• Analyzes reports on store profits or losses, energy usage, personnel assignments, inventory issues, product shrinkage, and product promotional results.

• Ensures that all contracted service providers, including trash removal, armored car service, and snow removal, are performing their duties in accordance with established standards.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• Employees in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and processes of retail store operations.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service.

• Knowledge of stock handling and inventory control methods and procedures.

• Knowledge of standard office computer applications.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in organizing and directing the work of others.

• Ability to assign and direct the work of staff assigned to the shift.

• Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.

• Ability to make mathematical computations related to sales and inventory recordkeeping.

• Ability to prepare records and required reports.

• Ability to operate a computerized cash register and make change.

• Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data presented in the form of charts, tables, and graphs.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):

• One year as a Liquor Store Assistant Manager 2 or a Liquor Store General Manager 1B;

or

• Two years as a Liquor Store Assistant Manager 1 or a Liquor Store General Manager 1A;

or

• Three years as a Liquor Store Clerk 2;

or

• Three years of lead or supervisory retail sales work.
