JOB TITLE: CORRECTIONAL INDUSTRIES SALES AND MARKETING SUPERVISOR

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Correctional Industries Sales and Marketing job series describes work involving the sales and marketing of products and services produced within a correctional institution.

DEFINITION: This is administrative and supervisory work in the promotion of Correctional Industries (CI) products and services through the expansion and improvement of sales and marketing activities.

The employee in this job is responsible for the statewide sales and promotion activities for CI products and services. This includes developing, planning, executing, and evaluating the effectiveness of comprehensive sales and marketing programs. Work involves extensive contact with customers to ensure superior service is provided within the framework of established departmental policies. Supervision is exercised over CI Sales and Marketing Representatives through conferences, analysis of reports, and observations. Work is performed with a high degree of initiative and independence and is subject to review upon completion by an administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and observations.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.):

• Develops and implements sales, marketing, and promotional programs for CI products and services.

• Conducts presentations, meets with customers to promote CI products and services, and gathers information on customer preferences and needs in order to forecast future demands of their operations.

• Serves as a liaison between customers, CI shops, and Central Office staff.

• Supervises staff involved in trade shows, regional conferences, product showcases, and other promotional activities.

• Prepares scheduling calendars, activity reports on sales and marketing programs, and correspondence regarding activities, problem issues, and recommendations for resolution.

• Assists in the development of sales and marketing strategies in an effort to promote new products and services.

• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of regional sales and marketing programs and makes recommendations for improvements.

• Coordinates site visits to CI locations to ensure staff have current and up-to-date knowledge of products, services, and manufacturing processes.

• Trains staff in the areas of customer relations and sales and marketing techniques.

• Represents CI at conventions and conferences.

• Responds to inquiries concerning CI products and services.

• Operates a motor vehicle.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• The employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of theories and application of sales management and marketing methods.

• Knowledge of economic factors in sales and marketing.

• Ability to collect, compile, and prepare marketing and sales information for publication.

• Ability to make sales forecasts based on information gathered from customers and other sources.

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (NOTE: These are expected of an employee performing the work of this job at the full performance level. • Knowledge of CI sales and marketing program goals and objectives.

• Ability to make decisions effectively.

• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise a comprehensive promotional program directed at market expansion and the improvement of marketing practices.

• Ability to plan, direct, and assign the work of subordinate staff.

• Ability to develop sales and marketing program plans and changes.

• Ability to monitor and evaluate sales, marketing, and promotional programs for effectiveness.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):

• One year of experience as a Correctional Industries Sales and Marketing Representative;

or

• Two years of professional sales experience in a manufacturing or service oriented production operation, and a bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing, business administration, or a closely related field;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
