DEFINITION: This is entrance level training work to develop practical proficiency in the use of mechanical engineering knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Employees in this class participate in an on-the-job training program under the supervision of professional engineers. Assignments are designed to develop the employee’s ability to apply the knowledges and skills of the mechanical engineering field to the solution of practical problems, increase the employee’s ability to identify problems early in the project, and develop solutions which conform to agency policies, rules, and regulations as well as professional standards. Work may include assignments in different organizational units to increase the employee’s awareness of the scope of engineering practiced in the Commonwealth and insure appropriate job placement. Work is closely screened prior to assignment and reviewed in detail for completeness, technical accuracy, and soundness of approach while in progress and upon completion.
