JOB TITLE: NURSING EDUCATION ADVISOR

JOB CODE: 20440

DEFINITION: This is professional nursing work in the regulation of nursing educational programs.

An employee in this job surveys nursing educational programs approved by the State Board of Nursing to ensure that the educational unit meets all board requirements. Work involves conducting surveys of educational units to evaluate the curriculum, faculty qualifications, teaching methods, clinical facilities and resources, and the administrative organization; interpreting and communicating program requirements, policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations; determining educational program deficiencies and communicating deficiencies to facility leadership; and working with interdisciplinary teams to address deficiencies and achieve program compliance. Work is performed under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, State Board of Nursing, and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and evaluation of program effectiveness.

• Reviews and evaluates new and existing educational programs and providers for professional licensure and advanced practice nursing for compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.

• Plans and conducts nursing program compliance surveys, prepares reports of findings, and informs nursing program administrators of results.

• Advises educational program directors, college or university administrators, nursing administrators, and faculty of the state requirements for nursing programs.

• Researches regulatory, educational, and practice issues; establishes facts and draws valid conclusions.

• Interprets board policies to nursing administrators and faculties of nursing education programs.

• Responds to inquiries from nursing education program administrators, health care community licensees, and the public; and provides information concerning nursing education programs.

• Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing education programs.

• Collects and analyzes nursing education data, prepares reports, and makes recommendations.

• Works with interdisciplinary teams to address nursing education program deficiencies.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of current nursing theories, practices, and trends.

• Knowledge of nursing education principles, practices, and trends; required curricula for nursing education programs; and the associated policies and regulations.

• Knowledge of the administrative organization of nursing education programs.

• Ability to perform in-depth analysis of data regarding nursing education and practice.

• Ability to review, analyze, and evaluate nursing education programs.

• Ability to interpret and apply nursing education program rules and regulations.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• Five years of professional nursing experience attained in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the past five-year period, including three years as an administrator, supervisor, or instructor, in an accredited professional Registered Nursing education program; and a master’s degree in nursing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

• All positions require active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
