EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS ASSOCIATE

DEFINITION: This is responsible specialized professional educational work in the field of educational statistical analysis.

An employee in this job is responsible for the planning, organization, conduct, and reporting of studies and projects involving analysis of data such as test scores,
population demographics, graduation rates, teacher to student ratios, class size, school statistics, etc., for educational planning and program management
purposes. Work involves determining the nature, scope and content of data collection studies and coordinating the collection and analysis of data obtained to
summarize data into recurring and special reports and publications for statewide dissemination. A critical element of this work is the analysis of data to identify the importance of trends and to assess the implications of data collected relative to educational initiatives, problems or issues. Employees interpret and explain the educational significance of study findings and advise on the importance of information obtained to educators, administrators, legislators and others through reports and oral presentations before small and large groups. Work also involves providing consultation to program managers and administrators on data
considerations relative to specific programs or initiatives. Duties require use of diverse statistical analytic techniques and application of data processing methodologies in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data. Work is performed with independence under the general supervision of a professional or
administrative supervisor and is reviewed through conferences and analysis of work performed.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts data collection studies and surveys on components of educational programs using statistical and mathematical methods.

Defines the nature and scope of data collection studies, determines essential data requirements and identifies appropriate data sources and effective collection
methodologies.

Plans and develops manuals of instruction, data collection forms and processes for use by schools in the collection and reporting of data.

Responds to inquiries and clarifies data collection requirements and procedures.

Develops and revises data analysis and reporting methodologies.

Guides and coordinates the collection, editing, tabulation, organization and summarization of data.

Reviews, analyzes and evaluates data to determine trends and impacts on educational programs, initiatives, and policies.

Assesses and interprets educational data and advises on the importance of information obtained in relation to evaluating programs or assessing problems or
policies.

Attends conferences and conventions at the regional, state and national level to disseminate the results of studies and provides guidance in improving the collection of data.

Determines educational data to be used in the development of program initiatives or in formulation of educational policies.

Reviews legislative bills to assess impact on educational programs.

Prepares and develops new and improved methods and techniques in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of educational data.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of statistical and mathematical concepts and techniques used in the analysis and interpretation
of data.

Knowledge of educational principles, concepts and practices.

Knowledge of research methods and principles.

Knowledge of the sources and uses of educational data.

Knowledge of computer applications and software used in the collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of data.

Ability to plan, organize and conduct statistical studies.

Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, charts, tables and studies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of professional statistical analysis experience which includes or is supplemented by one year of professional education experience; and a bachelor’s degree.
