EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION: This is supervisory work in the specialized field of educational statistics.

An employee in this job serves as the supervisor of specialists engaged in the planning, collection, analysis, reporting and presentation of educational data
encompassing both basic and higher education programs. The significant aspect of this work is responsibility for the completion of various statistical studies and projects designed to provide the department and related agencies with data necessary for planning and executing educational programs. Work is performed with considerable independence under general supervision of a professional supervisor and is reviewed through conferences and analysis of written reports.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Plans, develops, and supervises the collection, analysis, and presentation of educational data.

Provides the department, Governor's Office, legislature and educational agencies with data necessary for establishing educational policy.

Supervises the collection and editing of data pertaining to student enrollment, school buildings, pupil transportation, finances, census, professional personnel, salaries, degrees conferred and other elements of school programs.

Participates in the determination and presentation of projections for such data as births, enrollments, graduates, professional personnel and expenditures.

Supervises the preparation of statistical reports for presentation in various publications.

Disseminates statistical findings and advises on the collection of data.

Plans and supervises statistical studies to support the allocation of funds for educational programs.

Advises on the application of computerized data processing methods and the analysis of educational statistics.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of statistical and mathematical concepts and techniques used in the analysis and interpretation of data.

Knowledge of research methods and principles.

Knowledge of the methods of editing, presenting and disseminating statistical data.

Knowledge of the sources and uses of educational data.

Knowledge of educational principles, concepts, practices and trends.

Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods as applied to education.

Knowledge of computer applications and software used in statistical research.

Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, charts, tables and studies.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years as an Educational Statistics Associate;

or

Four years of professional statistical analysis experience which includes or is supplemented by two years of professional educational experience, and a bachelor’s degree;

or

An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes or is supplemented by two years of professional education experience.
