EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS DIRECTOR

DEFINITION: This is responsible professional and administrative work in the specialized field of educational statistics.

The employee in this job is responsible for directing and administering the collection, analysis, reporting and presentation of educational statistics to provide the department and related agencies with data necessary for planning and executing educational programs. Work includes directing the planning and coordinating of statistical studies involving the collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical information related to education, including projections of educational needs, costs, and cost estimates associated with the implementation of proposed legislation. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical and clerical staff. Work is performed with considerable independence and reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and an evaluation of results.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Plans, develops and directs the collection, analysis and presentation of educational statistics and data.

Provides the department, the Governor's Office, the legislature, and educational agencies with data necessary for establishing educational policy.

Directs and coordinates the collection and analysis of statistical data from other states and the Federal government.

Directs or participates in the collection and editing of data pertaining to student enrollment, school buildings, pupil transportation, finances, census, professional personnel, salaries, degrees conferred and other elements of school programs.

Directs the determination and presentation of projections for such data as births, enrollments, graduates, professional personnel and expenditures.

Directs the preparation of reports from statistical projects, for presentation and publication.

Directs statistical studies to support the allocation of funds for educational programs.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

The employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of statistical and mathematical concepts and techniques used in the analysis and interpretation
of data.

Knowledge of research methods and principles.

Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods, as applied to education.

Knowledge of the methods of editing, presenting and disseminating statistical data.

Knowledge of educational principles, concepts and trends.

Knowledge of the sources and uses of educational data.

Knowledge of computer applications and software used in statistical research.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of employee supervision.

Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate statistical data, charts, tables, and studies.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as an Educational Statistics Supervisor;

                                                                                                                                         or

Five years of professional statistical analysis experience which includes one year in a supervisory capacity and which includes or is supplemented by three years of
professional educational experience and a bachelor’s degree;

                                                                                                                                        or

An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of professional statistical analysis supervisory experience and three years of professional education experience.
