DEFINITION: This is supervisory professional psychological services work in a state correctional facility.

An employee in this job supervises psychology staff in the application of psychological principles, practices, and techniques to assist incarcerated individuals in achieving correctional diagnostic, classification, and treatment goals. Work involves overseeing unit coverage and staffing assignments, maintaining an appropriate number of therapeutic groups, ensuring programming meets identified clinical needs, managing local reporting requirements, and assisting in the development of local plans of action and the preparation of annual audits. Work is performed under the general supervision of a licensed psychologist or administrative supervisor and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and reports for overall program effectiveness.

• Supervises psychological services work performed in a state correctional institution.

• Oversees unit coverage and staff assignments to ensure operational efficiency.

• Assigns, monitors, and tracks parole psychological evaluations, commutations, continuity of care and transfer individual treatment plans, and sex offender programming.

• Ensures incarcerated individuals receive the appropriate number of individual and group treatment hours in alignment with their identified needs and individualized treatment plans.

• Develops and monitors plans of action associated with quarterly and annual audits, clinical supervision, clinical and legal reviews of suicide, and other processes that do not have clear procedural guidelines in support of a licensed psychologist.

• Collaborates and communicates with the Licensed Psychologist Manager (LPM) and Regional Licensed Psychologist Manager (RLPM) on clinical issues.

• Collects and maintains local data and reports used for quarterly and annual audits.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of psychology.

• Knowledge of psychological testing administration, techniques, and interpretation.

• Knowledge of individual and group behavior.

• Knowledge of mental diseases, their treatment strategies, and their social implications.

• Knowledge of psychological techniques employed in the modification and management of human behavior.

• Knowledge of clinical interviewing techniques.

• Knowledge of the principles and methods of statistical research and experimental design as applied in the field of psychology.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to recommend clinical solutions that support individualized treatment plans.

• Ability to develop recommendations based on the interpretation of psychological data.

• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

• Ability to analyze and interpret written information.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• One year as a Psychological Services Specialist, DOC (Commonwealth title);

or

• Two years of professional experience in the field of psychology and a master's degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology or counseling.
