SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Psychological Services Associate series describes work in a vocational rehabilitation facility providing psychological services to customers with a variety of abilities.

DEFINITION: This is technical work providing customer-centered psychological services.

An employee in this job administers assessments, conducts evaluations, and provides counseling and guidance to customers living in a vocational rehabilitation facility. Work involves interviewing and administering achievement, dexterity, and career research tests to current students. Work also involves screening case records and developing referral questions to use when planning an evaluation program for a prospective customer. Work may include conducting group counseling sessions. Work is reviewed by a Psychological Services Associate Supervisor for effectiveness of methodology, technique, and the achievement of treatment and rehabilitation goals.

• Selects, in consultation with a professional supervisor, appropriate tests to measure intellectual abilities, personality, aptitudes, and achievement level.

• Develops and prepares comprehensive written reports of interpretive conclusions and recommendations to determine vocational and rehabilitation goals.

• Under the supervision of a professional supervisor, selects and uses psychological techniques designed to help customers establish and achieve personal goals.

• Develops treatment plans and provides individual and group therapy and vocational counseling.

• Administers, scores, and interprets a wide range of psychological and vocational assessments.

• Discusses interview findings, interpretations, and recommendations with a professional supervisor and with the customer.

• Reviews, analyzes, and synthesizes information from psychological, educational, medical, and related reports.

• Writes evaluation reports to summarize observations and test results.

• Performs related work as required. ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the basic principles of psychology and related behavioral sciences.

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of administering, scoring, and interpreting standard psychological assessments.

• Knowledge of the application of psychology to individual and group behavior.

• Knowledge of disabilities and the associated social implications in relation to an individual and the environment.

• Knowledge of psychological techniques utilized in therapeutic interventions.

• Knowledge of current psychological theories and practices.

• Knowledge of the principles and methods of statistical research and experimental design as applied to the field of psychology.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to apply principles, methodology, and technical skills within specialty areas such as vocational counseling and guidance, personnel measurement and evaluation, research, or clinical psychology.

• Ability to elicit and summarize psychological case information from the customer and other professionals.

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• A master’s degree in a behavioral science, rehabilitation, human development, or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate credits in psychology, counseling, human development, or learning.
