JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR, PSYCHOLOGY OFFICE, CORRECTIONS

JOB CODE: 43105

DEFINITION: This is professional and managerial work directing the administration of the psychological services programming for the Department of Corrections.

The employee in this job is responsible for developing, planning, managing, and administering all departmental programs designed to maintain the quality of psychological services delivery to the Department’s inmate population. Work involves the formulation and implementation of all administrative policies and procedures consistent with departmental objectives, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards. Work also involves the coordination and integration of all psychological services to ensure quality of care. Administrative oversight is exercised over psychology staff through subordinate administrative and supervisory staff. Work is performed under the direction of an administrative supervisor and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and overall program effectiveness.

• Directs the administration of the Department’s psychological services programming.

• Develops and implements policies and procedures related to the Psychology Office in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.

• Collaborates with psychology staff to assure an integrated and consistent approach to the treatment of mentally ill inmates.

• Consults with and advises agency executive staff regarding matters of professional psychological care of inmates.

• Confers with Licensed Psychologist Manager, Corrections staff to establish clinical psychological standards of care, to include identifying appropriate testing measures, psychological evaluation interpretation, and clinical oversight.

• Conducts annual internal reviews to monitor the quality of psychological services and compliance with state and federal laws and accreditation standards.

• Reviews facility procedures to ensure consistency and standardization.

• Oversees psychological services contracts to ensure contract compliance and effectiveness.

• Oversees the development and delivery of psychological services training programs for agency staff.

• Makes recommendations regarding proposed new facilities, to include identifying psychological needs, developing programming, and finding appropriate resources.

• Serves as a member of the Department’s Executive Staff.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• The employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational and organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of psychological and mental health care management and administration.

• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and standards relating to psychological and mental health care services and programs.

• Ability to analyze and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (NOTE: These are expected of an employee performing the work of this job at the full performance level. • Knowledge of operating, licensure, psychological, and correctional mental health care standards required by accrediting entities.

• Ability to analyze, develop, and revise program plans and psychological and correctional mental health care standards.

• Ability to evaluate, coordinate, and integrate all psychological and correctional mental health care programs.

• Ability to plan, direct, and assign the work of subordinate staff to obtain maximum efficiency and achieve desired results.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):

• Six years of professional experience in the field of mental health care administration, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology;

or

• Four years of professional experience in the field of mental health care administration, and a master’s degree in psychology;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
