REHABILITATION CENTER MANAGER

DEFINITION: This is administrative and supervisory work in directing and planning comprehensive support services for students and managing the daily operations of the Hiram G. Andrews Center.

The employee in this job assists the Rehabilitation Center Administrator in planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and directing the programs, services, and operations of the Hiram G. Andrews Center. Work involves directing, through subordinate managers, the twenty-four hour operation and maintenance of the center; evaluating program effectiveness; and directing studies to determine ways to enhance services and meet new needs of the facility. Supervision is exercised over subordinate professional, technical, and clerical staff. Work is reviewed by the Rehabilitation Center Administrator for conformance to broad departmental policies through conferences, inspection, and reports.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Administers comprehensive support services for students including education, counseling and guidance, medical services, supportive therapies, rehabilitation engineering, related assistive technology, independent living, and placement.

Administers the financial management, procurement, shipping and receiving, printing needs, dietary operations, and grant writing functions.

Serves as the center administrator in the supervisor’s absence.

Directs the human resources functions of the center.

Directs the health clinic, assistive and rehabilitative technology, and physical therapy functions for the Hiram G. Andrews Center.

Directs the admissions, counseling, evaluation, deaf services, and student life functions for the Hiram G. Andrews Center.

Conducts ongoing reviews of the operational effectiveness of each Division.

Determines where improvements are needed in order to enhance the center's operations and services.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

The employee in this job may participate in the performance of their subordinates' work consistent with operational and organizational requirements.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of the principles and methods of vocational rehabilitation.

Knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques relating to the care and treatment of persons with disabilities.

Knowledge of the implications of severe disabilities on vocational, medical, social, cultural, and personal issues.

Knowledge of employment practices and skills, abilities, and physical demands of the more common occupations.

Knowledge of community agencies, volunteer groups, and social or welfare agencies engaged in rehabilitative programs and services.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of employee supervision.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of program administration.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Six years of experience in the development, implementation, and analysis of vocational rehabilitation programs in a rehabilitation center, vocational training facility, or institution that included two years of supervisory experience involving the development, implementation and analysis of vocational rehabilitation programs.
