STATE WORK PROGRAM TRAINEE

DEFINITION:

This is unskilled work of a training nature in a variety of service occupations.

An employee in this class participates in in-service training programs designed to develop sub-professional skills necessary to perform a variety of tasks in clinical and productive service areas in institutions and in community programs providing service to mentally, physically, and economically handicapped. Trainees are selected for their interest and aptitude for the particular service field and are placed in a formal training program approved by the Commonwealth. Emphasis in training is upon the development of sub- professional skills and methods necessary to perform the particular tasks. Training may be conducted by a state department or departments or by a contract or community agency. Training and initial work assignments are performed under close professional supervision; however, as job proficiency is acquired, increasingly difficult duties are assigned. Supervision is received through individual and group conferences, participation in prescribed programs, and performance evaluation.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Participates in in-service training programs concerned with developing sub-professional skills necessary to perform the particular tasks.

Learns basic work habits and methods required for acceptable performance in the function.

Attends formal training seminars.

Assists higher-level personnel in the performance of their duties.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

Ability to learn and apply sub-professional skills relating to the assigned function.

Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform adequately in the assigned function.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

No previous training or experience required.
