UCC ELEVATOR INSPECTOR TRAINEE

DEFINITION: This is work of a training nature in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices for compliance with the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and other applicable state laws and regulations.

An employee in this job receives classroom and on-the-job training to develop competency and skill in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices. Work involves providing assistance in inspections and in the preparation of reports. Work is performed under close supervision by a UCC Elevator Inspector Supervisor who assigns projects, gives detailed instructions, and reviews work in progress and upon completion for quality and adherence to established technical and procedural standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Assists in the inspection of elevator equipment, components, and machinery to determine compliance with the Uniform Construction Code and other applicable state laws and regulations.

Assists in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices to determine if the specified weight can be safely carried.

Performs inspections under the direction and guidance of a higher-level inspector.

Prepares draft reports of findings for review by a higher-level examiner.

Assists in the preparation of detailed reports for completed inspections.

Participates in classroom and on-the-job training.

Travels to inspection sites in remote locations. training.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the construction, inspection, installation, maintenance, repair or design of elevators, passenger ropeways, or other lifting devices, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems.

Ability to read and interpret the Uniform Construction Code, Elevator Law, and the rules and regulations governing the construction, maintenance and operation of elevators and other lifting devices.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to interpret blueprints and sketches.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience in the construction, inspection, installation, maintenance, repair, or design of elevators, passenger ropeways, or other lifting devices, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Certain positions in this job will require possession of a valid driver’s license.

POST EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: A valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Elevator Inspector within the probationary period.

Certain positions in this job may require a valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as a Passenger Ropeway Inspector within the probationary period.
