HOUSEKEEPER

DEFINITION:

This is housekeeping work at the Governor or Lieutenant Governor’s residences.

An employee in this job attends to the needs of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor by performing a wide variety of housekeeping and personal care services for their living quarters and valuable objects of personal, historical and artistic value. Work includes performing a variety of tasks that involve maintaining a clean and sanitary household, providing laundry services, assisting with meal preparation, serving meals and refreshments, and ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies at the residences. Supervision is received from higher level custodial or administrative staff and work is reviewed for satisfactory completion of requirements.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Performs a variety of housekeeping duties, such as dusting and polishing furniture and other household items, such as antiques; vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing or waxing floors; cleaning windows, window shades and blinds; and scrubbing walls.

Washes and dries laundry; irons clothes and linens; mends clothes and linens; changes bed linens; and delivers and picks up dry cleaning items.

Cleans and disinfects bathrooms, kitchens and appliances and replenishes soap, paper products, linens, etc.

Orders and maintains computerized inventory of cleaning, household and bathroom supplies; and loads and unloads food and supplies as needed.

Assists in preparing and serving meals for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s families and guests.

Assists in setting tables for dinner parties, receptions and lunches, serving food and beverages, cleaning tables after functions, and cleaning and returning dishes to proper areas.

Assists with providing for the needs of guests at events at the residences.

Supports facility operations by providing courier service, running errands, making urgent deliveries, and picking up orders as needed.

Drives the residence’s family and guests to and from the airport, hotel, etc.

Operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and other equipment and machinery.

Cares for the children of the Governor or Lieutenant Governor.

Assists with the execution of holiday and special events at the residences, such as making and placing ornaments and decorations.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of housekeeping and laundering methods and procedures.

Knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques including the care for antiques and other valuable items.

Knowledge of the chemicals, disinfectants and supplies used in housekeeping and laundering.

Knowledge of safety practices in performing housekeeping and laundry services.

Knowledge of proper table settings and serving practices and procedures.

Knowledge of household recordkeeping and supply and inventory practices.

Knowledge of the operation of household appliances and equipment used in performing housekeeping and laundry services.

Knowledge of meal preparation.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

One year of experience in general housekeeping work and cooking on a family or residence basis;

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess and maintain a valid non-commercial Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license or equivalent.
