LABOR FOREMAN 2

DEFINITION: This is supervisory work in directing a large group of workers engaged in manual work.

An employee in this class lays out and directs the work of lead workers, semi-skilled laborers, laborers, and/or inmate help. Some tasks may require specialized abilities, but the majority of the time assigned tasks are of a routine nature. The essential requirement is the ability to supervise assigned workers in the efficient accomplishment of assigned tasks. Employees have limited responsibility for making difficult or technical decisions. Detailed assignments are received in all but routine tasks, and work is checked in progress and upon completion by a supervisor. Employees in this class may participate in the performance of their subordinates work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supervises workers in routine building or road construction, renovations and/or repair, and buildings and grounds maintenance work.

Assigns work to lead workers and/or other subordinates.

Supervises workers in maintenance of grounds and buildings in a state institution.

Plans and lays out work for lead workers and/or subordinates working on a state canal system.

Instructs and otherwise assists those under their direction in the completion of the job.

Keeps and approves work time records and makes reports of work performed.

Operates a light truck to transport work crew and to perform duties.

Employees in this class may participate in the performance of their subordinates' work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the equipment and methods used in building or road construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance work.

Knowledge of traffic laws and safety rules pertaining to the operation of construction and maintenance equipment.

Ability to plan and supervise the work of a group of lead workers, semi- skilled laborers, laborers, and/or inmates.

Ability to use hand tools and light power tools and equipment commonly used in construction and maintenance work.

Ability to make time and materials reports.

Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Four years of experience in performing manual labor, semi-skilled labor or maintenance work, including two years of experience as a lead worker;

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Using agency may require possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
