JOB TITLE: OFFICE EQUIPMENT REPAIR TECHNICIAN

DEFINITION: This is skilled mechanical work at the journey level in maintaining and repairing a variety of office machines.

An employee in this job applies standard trade practices in the preventative maintenance and repair of various types of inserting, sealing, and mailing equipment. Employees are responsible for start and end of shift preparation for each piece of mailing equipment. Additional assignments are received in the form of written work orders or oral requests for service by the immediate supervisor. Work is performed independently, with review by a general administrative supervisor in case of questions concerning the satisfactory operation of equipment serviced.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (NOTE: The examples of work are representative of the work, but every position classified to this job may not perform all examples of work listed. Conversely, this is not an all-inclusive list of work examples.):

• Maintains mailing equipment and cleans, oils, and adjusts equipment as necessary.

• Operates various tools in servicing equipment.

• Helps to maintain records of equipment and parts on hand; notifies supervisor when parts and materials are needed; and checks parts when received.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the practices, materials, methods, and tools utilized in the maintenance and repair of various types of folding equipment, mailing equipment, and other standard mechanized office equipment.

• Knowledge of the mechanical operation of various types of mailing equipment and other standard mechanized office equipment.

• Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment employed in the maintenance and repair of mailing equipment and other standard mechanized office equipment.

• Ability to maintain records of parts and supplies and to order materials as needed.

• Ability to read written materials.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):

• Two years of experience in the repair or maintenance of mechanized office equipment;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
