JOB TITLE: ELECTRICIAN SUPERVISOR

SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Electrician series describes work in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and equipment that require up to 480 volts of electricity.

DEFINITION: This is supervisory and skilled work in the planning, coordination, lay out, installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and equipment that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.

An employee in this job is responsible for supervising and participating in the removal, installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and equipment. Work includes scheduling, assigning, and overseeing completion of a preventative maintenance schedule and work orders; laying out, coordinating, and executing projects involving systems and equipment that operate up to 480 volts of electricity; and recommending and implementing procedures and methods to accomplish this work. Work is performed independently and reviewed through reports, discussions, and inspections by a higher-level manager.

   DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

     • Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by directly supervising subordinate Electricians.

• Evaluates, prioritizes, and assigns routine and specialized installation, repair, and maintenance work orders.

• Ensures all electrical systems are installed and repaired in compliance with established methods, quality and efficiency standards, manufacturing guidelines, regulations, codes, and project objectives.

• Troubleshoots and resolves complex or unique installation, replacement, and repair work orders, such as those not specifying equipment and operations accurately or clearly on blueprints or drawings.

• Resolves or mitigates conflicts regarding sequencing of work and unforeseen conditions during a project; and establishes and implements related recovery plans.

• Coordinates with other trades supervisors and management on electrical work and resources necessary for projects.

• Monitors, guides, and instructs employees engaged in resolving installation and repair issues.

• Develops and communicates procedures for tool access, maintenance, and tracking.

• Maintains and communicates knowledge of regulations, codes, and safety procedures critical to the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems.

• Approves and procures parts for the repair and installation of equipment.

• Develops electrical project plans that are within scope and budget parameters, including estimating costs, time, labor, and materials.

• Reviews and participates in electrical project plans and specification development with engineers and architects.

• Plans, delivers, and oversees the technical training of electrical trades employees and other staff.

• Researches and recommends replacement electrical systems and materials based on building and occupant environmental needs.

• Ensures repairs, replacement, or installation of electrical components and equipment are accurately documented in reports, tracking systems, and blueprints or schematics.

• Solicits and oversees contracted services within budget and decision-making parameters.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work and other trades’ tasks consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Operates motor vehicles.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity associated with systems and equipment operating up to 480 volts of electricity.

• Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trade.

• Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations relevant to electrical systems, components, and equipment that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.

• Knowledge of the care and use of tools for testing, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, fixtures, and components that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.

• Knowledge of the electronic components of digitally controlled equipment, including controllers, sensors, and wiring.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to locate and repair electrical defects in equipment operating with up to 480 volts of electricity.

• Ability to read, interpret, and apply architectural, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical system blueprints and schematics to the selection of electrical components and the work layout for a project.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical measuring devices.

• Ability to perform math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• One year as an Electrician 2 (commonwealth title);

or

• Three years as an Electrician 1 (commonwealth title);

or

• Seven years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment, including three years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes three years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Certain positions require possession of a valid license as a journey or master-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction.

• Certain positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
