DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCER 2

DEFINITION: This is advanced technical and creative work in video, audio and multimedia production work in the Bureau of Commonwealth Media Services, Department of General Services.

An employee in this job is responsible for leading projects involving the production of video, audio, and multimedia programs for public information, documentaries, training and other purposes from project inception to completion. Work includes meeting with clients to discuss the overall scope and budget requirements for the project to include providing creative and technical assistance and guidance in the development of complex video, audio and multimedia productions; conducting detailed research of program topic areas; conceptualizing visual treatments and preparing or overseeing the development of detailed audio/visual scripts involving visual interpretation, continuity, technical requirements and effective application of program objectives or video production techniques; and overseeing all pre-production, production and post-production activities including concept and script development, editing, audio recording and mixing, graphic design, and duplication. An employee in this job leads Digital Media Producers 1 and other staff during the stages of project development and production. An employee in this job must use discretion and exhibit superior professional judgment in the presentation of information due to the potential for adversely affecting the programs and objectives of the Governor and other Administration officials. Work requires the highest confidentiality standards due to the access to sensitive and confidential information afforded incumbents in this job. Work is performed independently and is reviewed by the Section Chief or other technical or professional supervisor for overall achievement of goals and objectives, customer satisfaction, timeliness of final product, and adherence to established standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Meets with client agency representatives to determine project requirements, monitors progress of work, resolves conflicts as they arise, and ensures project deadlines and objectives are met.

Leads lower-level staff by coordinating and providing technical guidance and direction on assigned projects.

Oversees and coordinates projects for TV and radio, public information, news feeds, documentaries, training, internal communications and research purposes for all Commonwealth agencies and work involving the Governor and Lt. Governor, Cabinet officials and other high-ranking officials.

Conducts detailed research, conceptualizes and writes video projects and multimedia scripts that communicate the client’s intended message in a creative and professional manner.

Analyzes shot logs and selects visuals, music and sound effects.

Ensures that necessary personnel, equipment and props are secured within a time frame acceptable to client needs.

Prepares budget estimates and monitors and reviews records of production expenses, materials, time, and contract costs for completeness and accuracy.

Travels to various locations to carryout assignments.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

An employee in this job may participate in the performance of their subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the techniques and principles of professional video, audio and multimedia production.

Knowledge of creative and technical decisions involved in the production of video, audio and multimedia projects including the development of audio/visual scripts.

Knowledge of professional video, audio and multimedia equipment and software and the use of this equipment.

Knowledge of communication principles and practices.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience as a Digital Media Producer 1;

                                                                                                                                                           or

Three years of professional video, audio and multimedia production experience, and a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field;

                                                                                                                                                           or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.
