PHOTOGRAPHIC SPECIALIST 2

DEFINITION: This is technical work in the field of photography.

An employee in this class specializes in multi-media productions which are characterized by a combination of pictures, either still or motion, and words or sounds to convey an intended message. Work involves preparing narratives, selecting props, background, or still scenes; selecting personnel to be actors; selecting appropriate cameras, lighting and sound equipment; preparing work and production schedules; shooting scenes; coordinating film developments; editing film to select appropriate scenes or stills; directing or assisting in the incorporation of sound onto magnetic or optical tracks to accompany narrative and pictorial components of the production; and resolving any problems which may arise during production. Work involves considerable knowledge of audio-visual equipment and its application to the photographic and promotional field. Assignments are received in the form of overall goals and objectives to be served by the production and completed work is reviewed by a technical or administrative superior for quality and effectiveness of results in meeting the goals and objectives of the production.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Plans, directs, and produces multi-media productions.

Consults with program specialists to determine desired results and to provide technical advice on script writing, location selection, and filming methods.

Prepares working schedule to insure timely and efficient project production.

Writes scripts to accompany production and to convey intended message.

Selects or assists in the selection of personnel to be actors; instructs actors on their duties, and directs their activities.

Selects appropriate locations, background scenes, and props.

Selects appropriate cameras, films, filters, lighting equipment, and sound equipment to achieve desired results.

Directs and participates in the shooting of scenes or stills.

Edits processed film to match prepared script.

Incorporates or coordinates the incorporation of sound on magnetic or optical tracks.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the equipment, methods, techniques and materials used in multi-media productions.

Knowledge of departmental organization and programs.

Ability to operate motion picture cameras.

Ability to edit films to obtain desired results.

Ability to operate multi-media equipment.

Ability to write scripts for multi-media productions.

Ability to direct multi-media productions.

Ability to participate in the planning of publicity and educational programs using multi-media productions.

Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repair adjustments to equipment.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, departmental personnel and the general public.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience as a Photographic Specialist l;
