COPY MACHINE OPERATOR

DEFINITION: This is copy machine operation and related maintenance work which may involve ozalid or diazo machines.

An employee in this class operates photocopy, microfilm equipment, or an ozalid or diazo copy machine and reproduces second originals, drawings, sepias, mylars, and maps and performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments to photocopy machines, readers, printers, cameras, film processors, densitometers, and ozalid and diazo machines. Photocopy machine work includes adding toner and developer, cleaning glass surfaces, loading machine with paper, cleaning drums, clearing jams, and operating the machine to reproduce forms, letters, reports and other similar materials. Microfilm machine work includes loading cameras with appropriate film and making adjustments to insure proper image transfer and film density, loading processors with film and adding appropriate chemicals. Ozalid and diazo machine work includes adjusting machine speed, chemical strength, light intensity and paper feed mechanisms to obtain a satisfactory image or image transfer. Supervision is received in the form of oral or written instructions and completed work is reviewed for quality, quantity and adherence to established standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Operates an ozalid or diazo copy machine by adjusting machine speed, chemical strength, light intensity and paper feed mechanism to obtain satisfactory image or image transfer and reproduces second originals, drawings, sepias, mylars, and maps.

Prepares or adds proper chemicals to the machine and insures tanks are filled.

Performs preventative maintenance on machine and makes minor repairs and adjustments.

Operates one or more photostatic machines and reproduces forms, letters, reports, and other similar documents.

Prepares for operation and operates microfilm equipment to include readers, printers, cameras, film processors, and densitometers to reproduce maps, drawings, records, and other documents.

Prepares completed work for distribution following requestor's instructions.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to develop skill in the operation and maintenance of photocopy, ozalid, or diazo copy machines.

Ability to learn about the chemicals used in diazo or ozalid copy machines.

Ability to learn the routine maintenance of copy machines including diazo or ozalid copy machines.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to operate and repair equipment.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Any combination of experience and training in the use of copying machines or duplicating equipment that affords the applicant the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
