FORMS LAYOUT SPECIALIST 2

DEFINITION: This is specialized work in the layout of forms and paste-up of pamphlets and similar materials.

An employee is this class is responsible for preparing the final layout for complex forms and the paste-up for pamphlets and similar materials. Work involves designing the format, measuring the layout, fitting and pasting-up the copy, and preparing the material for duplication. Work includes mechanical or freehand lettering, pasting-up materials for pamphlets and similar materials, laying out signs, posters, or flyers, or preparing graphs or charts from statistical figures. Work may include meeting with program personnel to discuss and determine project objectives, designated project methods, and assure desired results. Employees receive work from an administrative or technical superior, or from program personnel in the form of rough drafts or verbal instructions. Work is performed independently, and is reviewed by a technical superior upon completion for adherence to established standards.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Prepares the paste-up for pamphlets and similar materials, graphic charts, letters, and reports.

Prepares the layout for posters, signs, and graphic charts.

Confers with program personnel to discuss and determine project objectives, designate project methods, and assure desired results.

Analyzes copy for effectiveness and prepares final layouts of office forms for departmental use.

Conducts limited research for information to be produced in charts or graphic form.

Uses pen and ink, or pencil to draw lines for forms, graphic charts, posters, signs, and the outline layout for pamphlets and similar materials.

Specifies typographic arrangement of the copy for forms and pamphlets and similar materials.

Selects the type font used on forms or pamphlets and similar materials.

Operates mechanical lettering devices to prepare headings in large or unusual type.

Produces basic floor plans for state office buildings from an architectural drawings.

Maintains a file of form masters for reference purposes.

Prepares materials for duplication.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of Business English, spelling and arithmetic.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of forms design and publication paste-up.

Considerable knowledges of the methods, techniques, and operations involved in the preparation of copy for duplication.

Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and materials used in publication paste-up or forms layout work.

Ability to prepare and design the layout for charts, and office forms.

Ability to prepare the paste-ups for pamphlets and similar materials.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the general public.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as a Forms Layout Specialist I, or four years progressively responsible clerical experience which must have included one year of forms layout and publication paste-up work; and graduation from high school, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
