SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Utility Plant Operator series describes work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler and chiller plant systems.
DEFINITION: This is unskilled work assisting in the operation of boilers, chillers, and related plant equipment.
An employee in this job assists with boiler and chiller plant operations. Work involves assisting in monitoring, documenting, adjusting, and maintaining the operation of boilers, chillers, and related plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Work includes monitoring and documenting data from meters and gauges; performing routine maintenance and repairs; and cleaning boilers, chillers, and plant areas. Work is assigned by a shift or technical supervisor and closely reviewed for conformance with instructions and safe operating procedures.

• Assists operators in maintaining, operating, and repairing boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, fans, and related plant equipment.
• Performs routine utility plant maintenance.
• Unloads and receives deliveries for the plant and places materials in designated storage locations.
• Cleans and maintains utility plant rooms.
• Performs related work as required.
