DATA ANALYST III L0043
Definition: This is supervisory work in the review and control of computer input and output.
Employees in this class are responsible for the review and control of the data to be used in the processing of computer programs. Work involves supervising the review of the original input, the scheduling and batching the data for keypunch, review of the keypunched data to insure its accuracy and completeness, processing the input to the computer room, and the review of the computer output for proper computer processing, completeness, and accuracy. Work involves supervising an assigned shift in the multi-shift data control unit or the entire data control function in a single shift operation. Work may include the supervision of the related functions of keypunch or computer scheduling. Work normally involves working with keypunch, programming, and operations personnel to resolve any problems involving data movement and program breakdowns. Work normally includes providing training for new personnel and to maintain the required skill levels for journeyman personnel as hard and software technology changes. Work is performed with considerable independence for resolving normal data review and control problems. Work is reviewed for timeliness of data movement and effectiveness of data review.
Examples of Work: Supervises an assigned shift in a multi-shift data control unit or the data control function in a single shift operation.
Supervises the review of computer input as received from originating source for format, completeness of data, and proper organization.
Supervises the review of key punched data for accuracy and completeness and the routing of input into computer room.
Reviews computer output for completeness of processing and accuracy of control totals; checks original data to resolve data errors; assists programmers and systems analyst in resolving program breakdowns not related to incorrect data.
Prepares training and trains subordinate personnel to develop skill in data review and to keep abreast of hard and software technology changes.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures of computer data control.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of data batching, computer input preparation, and computer output review.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management and supervision.
Ability to read and interpret input forms, keypunch cards, and computer printouts.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the work of a data control staff.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Experience and Training: One year as a Data Analyst II; or four years or progressively responsible experience in the review, analysis, and control of EDP input data. Appropriate post high school education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
