AGING CASE AIDE 1
Definition: This is beginning level public contact work in an Area Agency on Aging assisting senior citizens obtain a wide range of services.
An employee in this class assists professional and technical social services personnel in providing information and referral services to senior citizens to help them better understand community resources available to meet their individual needs. Work requires the application of a working knowledge of the physical, cultural and social environment of the geographical area or program to establish a rapport with the elderly to foster utilization of services. Work methods are routine; supervision is received from a professional superior and evaluated by direct observation and an evaluation of results.
Examples of Work Performed: Receives inquiries from senior citizens who may be unaware of the services available to them for which they are eligible.
Provides information and referral services, explains which agencies the person should contact or personally refers the inquiries to the appropriate agency. Assists in making appointments for services, notifying the client, and making arrangements for the client to be transported.
Maintains records on contacts made and compiles reports on number of clients receiving services.
Makes appropriate referrals to other service providers.
Performs various clerical duties, such as filing, light typing, and photocopying.
Completes client data form and updates client data as necessary.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the physical, cultural and social aspects of the assigned community.
Ability to learn about Area Aging programs and the services of other community agencies.
Ability to obtain, evaluate and analyze information from interviews, reports, records and other type of sources of information; and to provide information to clients and other type of personnel.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally with other persons.
Ability to read, write and perform simple arithmetic computations.
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Minimum Experience and Training: One year of public contact work, which involved obtaining or providing information;
or
any equivalent of experience and training.
