DRUG AND ALCOHOL RESIDENTIAL WORKER SUPERVISOR L0692
DEFINITION: This is supervisory work directing employees in a county residential program which involves providing guidance and assistance to clients to develop living skills necessary for the clients’ return to community living.
An employee in this class supervises the Drug and Alcohol Residential Worker Trainees and the Drug and Alcohol Residential Workers who are assisting clients in acquiring and testing new behavior patterns and skills necessary for returning to independent community living. Work involves training, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating the work of Drug and Alcohol Residential Workers and Drug and Alcohol Residential Worker Trainees; participating in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans; coaching and guiding clients in resolving problems; and performing public contact work as required. Work is performed in conformance with established policies and procedures and under the supervision of an administrative superior who reviews work for quality and achievement of established objectives through conferences, reports, and observation.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Trains, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of Drug and Alcohol Residential Workers and Trainees.
Interprets, rules, regulations, policy, procedures and operating standards for subordinates, residents, and the public.
Reviews employee's work performance and prepares employee performance evaluation reports.
Participates with the Drug and Alcohol Program Specialist and the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist in the screening of residents entering the facility.
Participates with the Probation Officer and the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist in developing goal plans for residents in the facility.
Responds to emergency situations.
Transports clients by personal vehicle to counseling sessions, employment interviews, etc. which take place away from the residential living facility.
Supervises urine surveillance and medication monitoring.
Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the basic principles and methods of drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
Ability to make judgements regarding the health and welfare of program clients and subordinates and to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Ability to learn and apply the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to provide appropriate transportation for residents to counseling sessions, employment interviews, etc. which take place away from the residential living facility.
Ability to read facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and to interpret the same to subordinates, residents, and the public.
Ability to learn and apply assessment and interviewing skills necessary for evaluation of drug and/or alcohol clients.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as a Drug and Alcohol Residential Worker;
or
Two years of paid experience in a Human Service Agency working with drug and/or alcohol dependent clients;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
