HOME CHORE SERVICES SUPERVISOR 2
Definition: This is supervisory work directing a large home chore services program in a county aging agency.
An employee in this class is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities of home chore personnel involved in weatherization, minor repair and maintenance work. Services are scheduled based on client needs, program resources and priorities. Work involves identifying the needs of clients and implementing a home care project to meet those needs. The employee will interpret the home chore program to the clients, resolve their complaints and make referrals for other services when necessary. Work may involve estimating costs of home repairs and purchasing materials in accordance with local, State and Federal regulations and within budgetary constraints. Work may involve verification of property ownership through various courthouses for tax purposes. On-site inspections are conducted on weatherization projects. Supervision is exercised over chore service personnel and reviewed by an administrative supervisor through periodic conferences, written reports and program effectiveness.
Examples of Work: Plans, organizes and directs a small home maintenance and minor repair program.
Assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of home chore service personnel involved in grass cutting, snow removal, minor repairs and weatherization.
Recruits workers based on needs identified by the community served and schedules interviews in order to fill positions.
Completes required forms for workers and clients on home chore program.
Identifies on-the-job training needs of staff and provides training to develop skill in performing home maintenance and minor repair tasks and to improve performance in completing home chore service tasks.
Maintains schedule and daily log of activities.
Evaluates applications for eligibility of services.
Purchases materials for home maintenance and repair in accordance with local, State and Federal standards and within budgetary constraints.
Designs and conducts surveys and studies in order to review and update data to assess needs of clients.
Conducts on-site inspections on service crew(s) at work locations for the purpose of evaluating program operations.
Makes repairs of tools used in minor home repair as needed.
Attends meetings on inter-agency council of in-home service agencies.
Submits monthly reports of program and budgetary information for input of the annual plan.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of equipment, tools and methods used in minor constructions, repair and maintenance of dwellings.
Knowledge of basic principles of arithmetic computations such as subtraction, addition, multiplication and division.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of supervision.
Skill in the use of basic hand tools utilized in minor home maintenance and repair.
Ability to assign, review and evaluate the work of others.
Ability to identify personnel needs and seek sources to provide training to meet those needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates and clients.
Ability to apply the basic practices involved in minor maintenance and repair of dwellings.
Ability to identify actual or potential safety hazards for clients.
Ability to prepare cost estimates of materials used in home repair and maintenance and prepare reports of program expenditures.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and written procedures.
Minimum Experience and Training: Four (4) years experience in general building maintenance work which involved two (2) of the building, electrical or mechanical trades, including one (1) year in a lead work capacity;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
