TRANSPORTATION DISPATCHER L0887
Definition:
This is clerical involving the processing of information and documents relative to the transportation program of a local county government agency. An employee in this class performs a variety of functions associated with the scheduling and dispatching of vehicles utilized for transportation food supplies and/or clients for a local county government agency. Duties involve the responsibility for scheduling transportation services and maintaining records for the program. Work includes assisting clients in obtaining transportation services through receipt of information and scheduling of appointments. Work may include providing training and guidance to new employees. Work is subject to periodic changes and requires some adaptability to shifts in work schedule. Employees work with considerable independence within standard operating procedures.
Examples of Work:
Answers telephone accepting calls from citizens requesting transportation services.
Schedules appointments for transportation services.
Maintains client records and vehicle reports as needed.
Provides back-up driving as necessary.
Attends appropriate training and staff meetings as directed.
Receives documents from staff and/or the public and reviews for transportation area needed.
Records client information onto forms, and/or form letters.
Codes client cards for identification, reference and filing.
Logs or records number of clients and destination areas daily.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of geographical area served.
Knowledge of traffic laws of the state.
Knowledge of the principles of operation of automotive equipment sufficient to detect detective operation.
Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices such as the types, organization, and use of standard office files, logs, forms and letter formats.
Ability to operate an automobile safely and skillfully.
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations such as the adding and subcontracting of whole numbers and decimals; and multiplying and dividing by one digit whole number or decimal multipliers and divisors.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients and the public.
Minimum Experience and Training:
Six (6) months as a Meal Transporter/Van Drive in a human service program;
or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license. No suspension of driver's license within the last three years.
