SECURITY GUARD SUPERVISOR (Housing)

Definition: This is supervisory security work in protecting housing authority tenants and property and maintaining the security of housing units and offices.

An employee in this class supervises a security force responsible for the patrolling of housing authority grounds and buildings to protect and guard persons and property from fire, theft, trespass or other hazards. Work involves the training of subordinate security guards in facility rules, practices and methods of security service. Work may require the use of a motorized vehicle in the conduct of patrols. Work is performed with independence for the provisions of the assigned facility security, but is reviewed for effectiveness and emergency response capabilities through reports and conferences by an administrative superior.

Examples of Work Performed: Supervises the patrolling of assigned areas of a housing authority; insures security from fires, prowlers, vandalism or other unusual occurrences.

Provides rounds of buildings and reviews reports on unusual situations.

Prepares schedules for the security force.

Prepares reports on complaints and unusual happenings for review by an administrative superior and police.

Assists and directs visitors; furnishes information in a courteous manner.

Maintains orderly conduct among tenants, employes and the general public.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of pertinent housing authority rules and regulations.

Knowledge of common building safety practices.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision.

Skill in dealing with people in a variety of security and hazardous situations.

Ability to remain alert at all times while on duty and to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

Ability to give and follow written and oral instructions.

Experience and Training:

One year of experience as a security guard or any equivalent combination of experience or training which provides the knowledges, skills, and abilities required to provide supervisory security services.
