PROPERTY AND CASUALTY INSURANCE POLICY EXAMINER SUPERVISOR
DEFINITION: This is supervisory work in the review and analysis of policies, rates, and rating plans for property and casualty insurance companies.
An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and participating in the review, analysis, and approval or disapproval of insurance policies, contracts, riders, endorsements, and applications of property and casualty insurance companies, including fire, general casualty, inland marine commercial property, general liability, credit indemnity, and homeowners warranty insurance and multi-peril and other package type olicies. Work includes contacting insurance company representative to obtain supportive or clarifying information regarding policy or form filings. Work is performed independently and is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences and meetings for adherence to department policy.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supervises a technical staff involved in the examination of policies, rates, and rating plans for property and casualty insurance companies to determine conformance to law and department regulations.
Supervises the collection and analysis of statistical date supporting decisions on policies and rate filings.
Supervises the review of advertising material related to property and casualty insurance for compliance with statutory requirements and department regulations.
Analyzes, recommends, and assists in the preparation and causality insurance policies and rates.
Confers with and attends meeting with other department personnel in the review and analysis of proper and casualty insurance policies and rates.
Supervises the investigation of complaints as they relate to property and casualty insurance policies and rates.
Corresponds and confers with property and casualty insurance company officials about company operations, marketing procedures, and policy and rate filings.
Supervises the development and implementation of bureau filing procedures for property and casualty insurance policies and rates.
Initiates corrective disciplinary action for minor misconduct by employees and recommends major corrective disciplinary actions or dismissals.
Receives grievances or complaints, conducts initial investigation into causes and conditions, discusses with employee, and resolves or recommends resolution to grievance or complaint.
Prepares and signs employee performance evaluation reports.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles and practices, including claims and underwriting principles and practices, classification of carries, the fundamentals of risk management, and the socio- economic influences of insurance.
Knowledge of provisions of property and casualty insurance policies and related forms.
Knowledge of state laws and department regulations relating to property and casualty insurance.
Knowledge of principles and practices of property and casualty insurance rate making.
Knowledge of basic statistical principles.
Knowledge of principles and practices of administration and supervision.
Ability to analyze insurance policies and related forms.
Ability to interpret and comprehend insurance-related data.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, insurance company officials, and trade association representatives.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience as a Property and Casualty Insurance Policy Examiner 2;
or
Four years of progressively responsible experience in property and casualty insurance rate analysis or research, underwriting, or in drafting or reviewing and examining property and casualty insurance policies and forms, or in a closely related area; and a bachelors degree;
or
Designation as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter.
