An employee in this class supervises the preparation or review of plans for complex bridge and structural projects, such as multi- span concrete or steel structures where hydraulic, soils, and foundation design considerations vary from standard consideration and structural analysis of loading limits complicate design; or less complex projects, such as single span concrete or steel structures where hydraulic, soils, and foundation design considerations conform to established standards. Work involves following complex design procedures in performing assignments and supervising technicians and designers in design and drafting phases. Assignments are performed independently and reviewed upon completion by a managerial supervisor for accuracy, adherence to established technical standards, and results obtained.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supervises the work of technicians and Bridge and Structural Designers in designing less complex bridge and structural projects, such as box culverts, pipe bridges, end and wing wall design, minor rehabilitation, and structured overlay or phases of complex projects, such as multi-span concrete or steel structures where hydraulic, soils, and foundation design considerations vary from standard consideration and structural analysis of loading limits complicate design.
