PHOTOGRAMMETRY TECHNICIAN 1

DEFINITION: This is technical work assisting higher level technicians in photogrammetry. An employee in this class performs duties that require the application of basic photogrammetry theory and elementary photogrammetric methods and procedures to the production of large scale engineering topographic maps. Work assignments vary and increase in difficulty as technical proficiency is acquired and demonstrated. Work is assigned in detail by a technical supervisor for quality, adherence to instructions, and technical approach.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Performs the orientation and basic operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments used in the production of topographic maps.

Participates in geodetic field surveys to establish horizontal and vertical control points.

Assists in the sheet layout and final drafting of photogrammetric maps showing cultural, topographic, and hydrographic features.

Receives instructions in the use of complex computer aided photogrammetric equipment and electronic surveying instruments.

Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of photogrammetric theory, methods, and techniques as applied to performing field control surveys, and preparing topographic map sheets.

Knowledge of elementary algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Ability to operate basic conventional photogrammetric and geodetic surveying instruments used in the production of topographic mapping.

Ability to interpret aerial photography relative to the type of features required on large scale topographic maps.

Ability to operate photogrammetric instruments requiring normal three-dimensional vision, color perception, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruments.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of experience as a Technical Assistant.
