PHOTOGRAMMETRY SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION: This is supervisory technical work in photogrammetry. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising several phases of a photogrammetric program. Work involves responsibility for assigning and reviewing the work of a staff engaged in computer aided stereoscopic map compilation, geodetic surveys, computer aided topographic drafting, and in contract inspection. Assignments require independence in planning work details and making technical decisions. Work is assigned with general directions and objectives by a technical manager who provides assistance with unusual problems and reviews work for overall effectiveness.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supervises the operation of a computer aided stereoscopic digital map compilation and drafting unit.

Supervises a geodetic surveys unit engaged in the field measurements and reduction of angular distance and elevation data for topographic map production and basic control monumentation for the densification of high order geodetic control stations.

Supervises a contract inspection unit engaged in the inspection and review of photogrammetric mapping produced by Photogrammetric engineering firms.

Plans and organizes work, assigns work, determines work priority, sets goals, reviews work performance, and rates employee work performance.

Determines work procedures; plans and adjusts work flow.

Interprets rules, regulations, policies, standards, and objectives of the organization or program to subordinates.

Initiates corrective disciplinary action for minor misconduct by employees and recommends major corrective disciplinary actions or dismissals.

Receives grievances and complaints, conducts initial investigation into causes and conditions, and discusses with employee, and resolves or recommends resolution to grievance or complaints.

Reviews and evaluates the educational training needs of subordinates; plans and conducts training, or arranges for further education and training.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the use of computer aided stereoscopic mapping instruments.

Knowledge of geodetic filed survey methods and techniques using electronic surveying systems.

Knowledge of photogrammetric theory, methods, and techniques, as applied to the production of topographic maps.

Knowledge of mathematics as applied to photogrammetry, surveying, and use of computers.

Knowledge of methods and techniques used to perform field control surveys, and compile and draft topographic map sheets.

Knowledge of the principles of effective supervision.

Knowledge of the principles of highway location and design as applied to photogrammetric digital mapping.

Knowledge of computer equipment systems and the use of mapping applications software.

Ability to operate stereoscopic mapping instruments.

Ability to operate conventional and electronic geodetic surveying instruments.

Ability to identify cultural features observed in the stereoscopic model and plot them in graphical and digital form.

Ability to operate instruments requiring normal three-dimensional vision, color perception, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as a Photogrammetrist Technician 2.

Three years of experience in the operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments used in the production of topographic maps or geodetic field surveys.

Two years of experience in the operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments used in the production of topographic maps or geodetic fields surveys and an Associate's Degree in an appropriate engineering technology.

                                                                                                                                                    or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
