LIBRARY ASSISTANT 2

DEFINITION: This is advanced library-clerical work involving the application of complex and technical library procedures.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing complex and technical library duties involved in accessioning, classifying, cataloging, inter-library loan,
or bibliography preparation. Work involves assisting library patrons in locating and using or acquiring, through interlibrary loan, source material. Work may
involved the preparation of subject bibliographies including abstracting bibliography materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a professional or
administrative superior and is reviewed through observation, conferences, and reports for adherence to library standards and departmental policy.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Accessions, determines subject classification, and catalogs new library acquisitions.

Assists library patrons in locating and using library source materials and arranges for inter-library loan of materials not available in the library by locating a
source and arranging for the inter-library loan or photocopy and mailing of materials.

Prepares and maintains subject bibliographies requested by library patrons; prepares abstracts of bibliographies.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of library techniques, procedures, and working tools used in accessing, cataloging, circulating, and maintaining library materials.

Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in bibliography preparation and the use of library research materials.

Knowledge of reader comprehension and interest levels of library patrons.

Ability to apply library methods and principles of cataloging, circulation, and providing patron service.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and the public.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of library- clerical experience; or one year as a Library Assistant 1. An associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science may be substituted for the required experience.
