JOB TITLE: VOCATIONAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION: This is supervisory professional work providing vocational services for patients with an intellectual disability or a mental health diagnosis. An employee in this job plans, organizes, and supervises the delivery of vocational services to patients. Work involves supervising Vocational Services Workers who assess patients' functioning levels and formulate vocational segments of comprehensive patient program plans; deliver vocational workshops and all other patient-employee work programs; and monitor and adjust treatment and habilitative methods based on patient progress. Work includes developing and implementing procedures and methods to accomplish this work; interpreting and communicating policies and vocational program goals to staff; coordinating service delivery with other professional services; and monitoring, tracking, and reviewing data related to vocational program service delivery. Work is performed independently under the general direction of a manager and is reviewed through conferences and reports to determine quality and achievement of established objectives.

   DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

     • Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by the responsibility for supervising Vocational Services Workers.

• Plans, organizes, and evaluates vocational programs provided by Vocational Services Workers to patients with an intellectual disability or a mental health diagnosis.

• Develops and implements operational procedures used by Vocational Services Workers and other staff involved in vocational program delivery and monitors and adjusts the methods of delivery.

• Provides suggestions in the development of policies related to vocational program planning and implements and communicates these policies to staff.

• Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of vocational segments of patients’ comprehensive program plans.

• Identifies, recommends, and implements the training and development needs of the vocational staff and evaluates the effectiveness of these initiatives.

• Consults with the interdisciplinary teams on the development and conduct of vocational programs.

• Coordinates the delivery of vocational services and integrates them with services provided by other clinical disciplines in accordance with patient program plans.

• Reviews patient reports submitted by staff and maintains necessary administrative and clinical records.

• Develops and maintains relationships with outside businesses that partner on vocational programs including monitoring patient-workers to ensure production targets and quality standards are met.

• Completes necessary forms and information to maintain patient-worker compliance and payroll records.

• Requisitions, inspects, and supervises the maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the implementation of vocational services.

• Serves on unit, facility, administrative, policy, and other clinical services committees.

• Travels to on- and off-campus field sites and transports patients to vocational activities and events.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the theories, principles, and methods of vocational rehabilitation.

• Knowledge of vocational program content, such as vocational evaluation, work adjustment, skills training, placement, and vocational counseling.

• Knowledge of individual and group behavior and effective ways of working with patients with physical, medical, or intellectual disabilities.

• Knowledge of the care, use, and maintenance of equipment and supplies needed for vocational services.

• Knowledge of vocational training methods and resources involved in work production, in-service training, and out-service training.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to assess patients' functioning levels, strengths, needs, and progress relative to vocational program goals.

• Ability to implement and evaluate vocational segments of individual program plans in accordance with patients’ functioning levels, strengths, and needs.

• Ability to interpret and apply clinical and program data and reports to assess vocational services and delivery effectiveness.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• Two years as a Vocational Services Worker (Commonwealth title);

or

• Two years of professional vocational services experience and a bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation, vocational education, vocational counseling, or a related human services field;

or

• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Certain positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
