JOB TITLE: DENTAL ADMINISTRATOR, CORRECTIONS

DEFINITION: This is professional and administrative work in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of a comprehensive dental health care program for the Department of Corrections (DOC).
The employee in this job has agency-wide responsibility for the oversight of dental health services and the development and implementation of dental health services policy and ensuring its consistent application throughout the Department. Work involves providing consultative services to DOC executive staff; serving as the Department's liaison and point of contact on issues involving dental health care services and treatment; and evaluating and monitoring the quality of dental care services delivered throughout the Department’s State Correctional Institutions (SCI) and facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a medical or administrative supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and evaluation of results.

• Plans, organizes, and administers a comprehensive program of dental health services for DOC.
• Ensures the standardized delivery of dental services, to include developing policies and procedures related to dental care practices as well as interpreting guidelines.
• Monitors and develops tools to monitor dental services to ensure quality of care.
• Reviews procedures and methods of operation performed by dentists within the Department’s SCIs.
• Evaluates and reports dental program effectiveness and identifies deficiencies to recommend methods of improvement.
• Conducts in-service dental training programs.
• Attends quarterly quality improvement meetings.
• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.
• The employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.
• Performs related work as required.
ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of dental principles, practices, and methods.
• Knowledge of the techniques utilized in performing dental services, to include preventive and corrective dentistry and oral hygiene.
• Knowledge of the rules, regulations, standards, and policies relating to dental services and programs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities):
• Three years of experience in the practice of dentistry, including one year in a State Correctional Institution.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
• This position requires possession of an active license to practice dentistry as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
