SERIES NATURE OF WORK: The Psychological Services Associate series describes work in a vocational rehabilitation facility providing psychological services to customers with a variety of abilities.

DEFINITION: This is supervisory work providing customer-centered psychological services.

An employee in this job supervises Psychological Services Associates responsible for providing vocational counseling, guidance, measurement, evaluation, and research for a psychological services program. Work includes overseeing, reviewing, and approving case progress reports, and reviewing and evaluating vocational evaluation assessments. Work also includes serving as a member of a risk assessment committee, attending customer disciplinary hearings, and writing discipline letters. Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor for scope, methodology, techniques, and effectiveness in achieving treatment and rehabilitation goals.

   DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

     • Work at this level is distinguished from the lower-level job based on the responsibility for supervising Psychological Services Associates.

• Supervises the administration, scoring, and interpretation of standard psychological tests designed to measure and evaluate intellectual abilities, personality structure, achievement levels, aptitudes, and interests.

• Evaluates individual rehabilitation plans for technical accuracy.

• Provides consultation to psychological services staff and counselors on customer disabilities, diagnoses, and related behaviors.

• Reviews technical aspects of the psychological services program to ensure that appropriate methodology and principles are used.

• Researches and selects evidenced-based assessments that are current and applicable to customers.

• Reviews, analyzes, and synthesizes information from psychological, educational, medical, and related reports to make referral determinations.

• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

• Employees in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

• Performs related work as required.

ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the methods and techniques of administering, scoring, and interpreting standard psychological assessments

• Knowledge of the basic principles of psychology and related behavioral sciences.

• Knowledge of the application of psychology to individual and group behavior.

• Knowledge of disabilities and the social implications in relation to the individual and environment.

• Knowledge of psychological techniques utilized in therapeutic interventions.

• Knowledge of current psychological theories and practices.

• Knowledge of the principles and methods of statistical research and experimental design as applied to the field of psychology.

• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.

• Ability to elicit and summarize psychological case information from the individual and professional sources.

• Ability to analyze and interpret laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Ability to analyze and interpret written information and numerical data.

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)

• Three years as a Psychological Services Associate (commonwealth title);

or

• Three years of technical experience in psychological services and a master’s degree in a behavioral science, rehabilitation, human development, or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate credits in psychology, counseling, human development, or learning.
