CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY INTERN

DEFINITION: This is professional work of a training nature in the field of psychology in State institutions and clinics.

Employees in this class are enrolled in a graduate training course leading to a doctorate in psychology and are in the process of completing internship training. Work involves routine psychological testing; interviewing and research and is limited in variety and complexity. Employees work under the close supervision of a professionally trained psychologist. The work is assigned in detail and is reviewed carefully as to method and content.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Administers standard tests to measure and evaluate intelligence, degrees of deterioration and disorganization, personality structure, interests, aptitudes and other factors in personality functioning; scores tests and prepares preliminary interpretation of data.

Engages to a limited extent in psycho-therapy; interviewing adults and children to secure information and give simple counseling; and applying play techniques designed to determine the basis of children's problems and help in their solution.

Participates in professional conferences, primarily in a training capacity; for purpose of evaluating patients or inmates.

Aids in research projects.

Prepares reports on tests and interviews.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILL, AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of the basic principles of sociology, psychology and other social sciences and current social, economic and health problems.

Some knowledge of individual and group behavior and effective ways of working with people.

Some knowledge of standard psychological testing methods, forms
and devices.

Some knowledge of mental illness, deterioration and defectiveness and personality defects.

Ability to interview persons, secure pertinent information and give simple psycho-therapeutic counseling service.

Ability to make clear and pertinent statements orally and in writing and to analyze relatively simple psychological data.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Such training as may have been gained through graduation from an accredited four year college or university, and current enrollment in an accredited graduate school leading to a doctorate degree in psychology; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
