JOB TITLE: CORRECTIONS WAREHOUSE SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION: This is supervisory work overseeing staff and inmates involved in the performance of routine and specialized tasks in a correctional facility storeroom or warehouse operation.
An employee in this job is responsible for supervising work performed in the receipt, storage, distribution, and recordkeeping operations of one or more storerooms or warehouses. Work involves supervising Corrections Stock Clerks; overseeing on-the-job training and instruction provided to inmates; requisitioning supplies and equipment; preparing and maintaining work records and personnel reports; ensuring staff and inmates comply with established safety and security standards; and maintaining safe working conditions. An employee in this job assumes responsibility for the therapeutic care, custody, and control of assigned inmate workers. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and evaluation of overall effectiveness.

• Supervises, coordinates, inspects, and evaluates work performed in the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Trains staff and inmates in storekeeping methods, practices, and procedures.
• Ensures order and discipline is maintained among inmate workers by enforcing security and custody regulations, resolving minor infractions, and reporting violations to management for action.
• Searches inmates and work areas for contraband and ensures the security of the work area.
• Attends supervisory and administrative staff meetings to discuss department goals, work conditions, and personnel matters.
• Estimates stock needs and maintains adequate inventory levels by requisitioning items in advance of need.
• Supervises the receipt, storage, and distribution of perishable stock, medical supplies, equipment repair parts, and fragile commodities which require special care or handling.
• Inspects work areas and equipment to ensure staff and inmates comply with established safety and security standards.
• Ensures proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Performs the full range of supervisory duties.
• An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.
• Performs related work as required.
ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of storekeeping or warehousing methods, practices, and procedures used in the receipt, storage, and distribution of a variety of goods.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in a storeroom or warehouse operation.
• Knowledge of the proper care and use of storeroom or warehouse equipment.
• Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.
• Ability to read and interpret written materials.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (NOTE: Based on the Entry Level Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities)
• Three years of experience as a Corrections Stock Clerk (commonwealth job title);
or
• Four years of experience in receiving, storing, or distributing an inventory of goods.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
• Certain positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
