CONSERVATION DISTRICT FIELD REPRESENTATIVE 2

DEFINITION: This is professional conservation work associated with the promotion and development of conservation district programs.

Employees in this class assist in the organization and development of local conservation districts within an assigned area. Work involves providing the stimulus and guidance necessary in the formation of conservation districts, the training of district directors in program development and operations, the is seminating and interpreting of conservation services available through local, state, and federal participating agencies, and representing the State Conservation Commission in coordinating the activities of conservation districts. Employees function with considerable independence within the framework of established laws, policies, and procedures. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, reports, and evaluation of program achievements.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Attends conservation district meetings advising on program development, budget planning, and availability of technical services through participating agencies.

Provides training to district directors, cooperating agency personnel, and other interested groups in the objectives, operations, policies, and procedures of a total conservation program.

Consults with county commissioners and other local organizations for the purpose of promoting the development of conservation districts.

Participates in examinations of watershed areas to determine watershed development and flood prevention needs.

Represents the State Conservation Commission in the promotion and development of conservation practices among landowners in the various conservation districts.

Prepares reports on district activities, writes conservation articles for local distribution, and lectures to urban and rural groups on the benefits of conservation practices.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of land capabilities and the conservation methods and techniques required to keep land permanently and profitably productive.

Knowledge of the basic disciplines relating to conservation including agronomy, geology, and forestry.

Knowledge of the programs and objectives of participating agencies interested in providing technical conservation services.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, farmers, and other related organizations.

Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to speak effectively in public.

Ability to promote and develop leadership in conservation district programs.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year as a Conservation District Field Representative 1;

                                                                                                                                                                    or

One year of experience in the application of soil and water conservation practices and such training as may have been gained through a Bachelor's Degree with major course work in soil and water conservation or one of the related disciplines;

                                                                                                                                                                    or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
