UCC ELEVATOR INSPECTOR SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION: This is supervisory and technical work in the inspection of elevators and other lifting devices for compliance with the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and other applicable state laws and regulations.

An employee in this job supervises employees involved in the elevator and other lifting device inspection program in an assigned geographic location. Work involves supervising and conducting inspections of elevators and other lifting devices for compliance with the provisions of the state law regulating their construction, maintenance, and operation; and providing assistance to staff for inspections of a complex nature. Work is performed under the general direction of the UCC Elevator Inspector Director and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and evaluations of the results of the program.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supervises UCC Elevator Inspectors and UCC Elevator Inspector Trainees in the enforcement of the law and regulations governing elevators and other lifting devices.

Reviews elevator and other lifting device inspection reports and recommendations for compliance.

Provides assistance with inspections of a difficult nature.

Recommends action to be taken against violators.

Obtains search warrants from the District Attorney’s office.

Participates in or observes subordinates’ performance in District Justice hearings.

Advises the UCC Elevator Inspector Director on the planning and development of the inspection program.

Travels to inspection sites in remote locations.

Employees in this job may participate in the performance of their subordinates’ work consistent with operational or organizational requirements.

Performs the full range of supervisory duties.

Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the construction, installation, inspection and maintenance of elevators and other lifting devices.

Knowledge of the Uniform Construction Code, the Elevator Law, and the rules and regulations governing the construction, installation, inspection, maintenance, and operation of elevators and other lifting devices.

Ability to interpret blueprints and sketches.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of experience as a UCC Elevator Inspector;

                                                                                                                  or

Four years of experience which involved the inspection, installation, repair, maintenance, or design of elevators, passenger ropeways or other lifting devices

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Qualified Elevator Inspector qualification.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Certain positions in this job will require possession of a valid driver’s license.

POST EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT: Employees must obtain valid certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Elevator Inspector, Passenger Ropeway Inspector, and Building Code Official within the probationary period.
